Понастоящем CO2 лазерите и фибролазерите са основното оборудване, подходящо за рязане на средни и тънки плочи от въглеродна стомана, неръждаема стомана, алуминиева сплав и други материали. Предимствата на тази технология са тесните режещи шевове, малките зони на топлинно въздействие, липсата на необходимост от форми и бързата смяна на трасетата за обработка. Тя е особено подходяща за индустрии с високи изисквания, като автомобилостроене, обработка на листов материал и космическа индустрия.
Машина за лазерно заваряване разчита на високоскоростното топене на метални материали чрез лазерни лъчи, за да се постигне свързване, и има характеристиките на голяма дълбочина на проникване, бърза скорост и ниска консумация на топлина. Обичайните режими на заваряване включват непрекъснато лазерно заваряване и импулсно лазерно заваряване, които са подходящи за сценарии на прецизно заваряване на тънки плочи и дълбоко заваряване. В сравнение с електродъговото заваряване, лазерните заварки имат висока якост и малка деформация и са подходящи за опаковане на акумулатори, заваряване на устройства от неръждаема стомана и производство на структури за ядрена енергия. Особено в производството на акумулатори лазерното заваряване се превърна в основен метод за свързване.
